Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the 22nd International Conference on the Future of Asia themed “Rising to global challenges and realizing Asia’s future” in Tokyo, Japan on May 30-31.
The meeting focused on factors affecting the future development of the region, including relations between world powers, the trends in economic connection and trade liberalization, growth prospects for developing and newly-emerged economies, and traditional and non-traditional challenges facing the region.
Deputy PM Dung said in order to overcome the challenges to peace, prosperity and sustainable development, Asian countries need to maintain peace, security, respect territorial sovereignty for the benefit of each country, and resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner based on the international law.
He confirmed the Vietnamese government’s determination to take drastic measures to develop Vietnam’s economy and soon turn Vietnam into a modern industrial country.

Deputy PM Dung addressed the opening ceremony of the Conference in Tokyo on May 30.
The conference focused discussions on global economic prospects, infrastructure development in Asia and regional security.
In his speech, Deputy PM Dung emphasized that the maintenance of peace and stability through strengthening regional cooperation and building trust among nations are crucial to develop an Asia of peace, prosperity and sustainable growth.
He asserted Vietnam’s stance which considers Japan the leading partner in its integration process.
Mr Dung met with Motoo Hayashi, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on the sidelines of the conference on May 30. He proposed measures to boost economic ties between the two countries, especially in trade and investment, in order to doubling two-way trade by 2020.
He met the President of Route Inn group, Katsutoshi Nagayama on the same day.
On May 31, Deputy PM Dung received Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) Ishii Keiichi.
Earlier, he met Japanese government officials and executives of business associations, seeking to reel in more capital into infrastructure, which is defined as one of the three strategic breakthroughs to drive Vietnam’s economy.

On the occasion, he visited the Embassy of the S.R of Viet Nam in Japan and had a talk with Embassy staffs working in Japan.
He presented the Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit to the Viet Nam Embassy in Japan.
